KARACHI: KU extends exam forms submission dates


KARACHI, Oct 14: The University of Karachi on Tuesday extended the date for submission of exam forms and fee for BA, BSc (pass) and B.Com annual examinations 2008 (fresh and failure) for regular students from Oct 20 to Oct 22.

The prescribed fee for B.Com (regular) and BSc (pass) part-I, II is Rs1,350, for B.Com (regular) and BSc (pass) both parts Rs2,175, BA (pass) regular part-I, II Rs1,185, and BA (pass) regular both parts Rs1,985.

The candidates enrolled in 2002 and earlier will have to pay Rs800 extra as a fine to appear in the annual examinations 2008.

The students enrolled in 2003 or earlier will appear in BA, B.Com, BSc part I, II and both parts annual examinations 2008 as a last chance.

SSC part-I exam forms

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi on Tuesday announced that the examination forms of SSC part-I (class IX) annual examinations 2009 Science and General group (regular and private) would be accepted from Oct 18 to Dec 1.

The examination forms are acceptable with a late fee of Rs100 from Dec 2-17, Rs200 from Dec 18 to 31, Rs500 from Jan 1 to 15 2009, Rs1,000 from Jan 16 to Jan 31 and with Rs1,500 late fee from Feb 2 to onwards.

The examination forms can be obtained from Askari Commercial Bank and Habib Bank Limited, Board Office booths.

The forms can also be obtained from the examination store of the board on the payment of cost of forms through a pay order in favour of the Secretary, Board of Secondary Education Karachi.

Jinnah varsity admissions

The Jinnah University for Women, Karachi, on Tuesday announced a schedule for admissions for the academic session 2009. The announcement said that the issuance of admission forms commenced from Tuesday and the last date for the submission of the forms is Oct 25.

It said that the aptitude tests would be conducted on Oct 26.

The list of selected candidates will be put on display on Nov 4.

An official of the university said that there were 50 seats in each of the 19 teaching departments in the faculties of science, arts, pharmacy and in business administration.

Talk on Shah Latif

The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology has arranged a talk on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai at its Abdul Haq campus on Oct 20.

A statement from the university issued here on Tuesday said that noted scholar Agha Saleem would deliver a lecture on the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. It said that vice chancellor of the university Prof (Dr) Mohammad Qaiser will preside over the meeting.

Ivy League schools recognise IELTS

Overseas students wishing to apply to Ivy League schools in the US can now use IELTS (the International English Language Test System) as an indicator of their English-language skills, says a press release issued by the British Council.

Overseas students applying for admissions to the Ivy League schools — Dartmouth, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Yale, Princeton universities and the University of Pennsylvania — for the 2009-10 year, can now use IELTS as evidence of their English-language skills (Admis-sion requirements vary between schools. Students should check with each school, at which level — undergraduate or graduate — they accept IELTS).— Agencies
