KARACHI, Oct 13: In the three Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played here at separate venues on Monday, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) beat Afghan FC 6-2, Pakistan Steel and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) played a goalless draw and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) beat Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 3-1.

In the first encounter between NBP and Afghan FC, played at the Korangi Baloch Stadium, the bankers thrashed the team from Chaman who did try to put up a brave front but finally bowed down to NBP’s superiority.

The first goal was scored by NBP’s winger Farooq Shah in the 10th minute. But Afghan FC equalised soon after in the 15th minute through their striker Mahmood Khan. Farooq scored another for NBP in the 20th minute. This was followed by NBP’s midfielder Abbas Ali presenting a goal to his opponents in the form of an own goal to make the score equal again. It was 2-2 at interval.

The second half saw NBP making amends to score four more goals. Winger Jamil Ahmed gave the bankers their third goal in the 47th minute. Abbas Ali made it 4-2 in the 75th minute while Abdul Aziz (89th min) and Jamil Ahmed (91st min) took the score to 6-2 to win the match.

The second match between Pakistan Steel and KESC at the Pak Steel Town ground saw both sides miss out on several good opportunities to end the match 0-0.

The third match between KPT and HBL at the Peoples Sports Complex saw KPT’s striker Abdul Rehman scoring in the fifth minute through a penalty kick. The equaliser came in the 27th minute through HBL’s striker Khayal Muhammad.

KPT struck their second in the 41st minute through striker Zafar Majeed to lead by 2-1 at interval. The third goal for the winners was scored by striker Shahid Saleem in the 82nd minute.

Tuesday’s fixtures: Navy v Army at the Naval Complex, Islamabad, at 4.00pm; PTV v KRL at the PSB Ground, Islamabad, at 4.00pm.
