PESHAWAR: Terrorist threat puts city on high alert

PESHAWAR, Oct 13: Security forces and police were put on high alert and reinforced at checkpoints here on Monday following reports that two suicide bombers had entered the city.
Barriers were raised at Police Road, Governor House Road, Secretariat Road and all roads leading to the Chief Minister House, the Police Lines and the Secretariat were closed to public transport.
Even pedestrians were not allowed through the checkpoints by the security personnel without body search.
SP Security Sajid Khan, when contacted, told Dawn that the area where Chief Minster House, Chief Secretary House and residences of other high ranking officials were located had been declared as red zone.
The Secretariat, Police Lines and adjacent offices were included in the red zone, where movement of the unconcerned people had been banned due to security reasons, he added.
He said that concerned staff members were issued security passes and people intending to go to Police Lines and other offices in the area could use the Secretariat Road opposite to East Cantt police station but they would leave their vehicles behind.
He said the vehicles could be brought only on permit from the competent authorities.
Meanwhile, another official of a security agency requesting anonymity told this scribe that there were reports that two suicide bombers had entered the city and they were planning to target some important buildings.
“Police have started searching the people in different areas, especially the hotels in city and cantonment areas but no clue had so far found,” said the official.
About the entry of some explosive-laden vehicles into the city, he said that the information seemed to be just a hoax.
FOUR KILLED: Four persons including a woman were killed in different incidents here on Monday.
A complainant Mian Rehman Shah son of Mian Rahim told Badbher police that his brother Mian Nauman Shah was sitting in his shop near Syphun police post when a group of people belong to his village Kaga Wala opened indiscriminate fire on him and hilled him.
He alleged that Israr, Zamir, Misri Khan, Wisal, Arsala Khan, Hameed and some others persons were involved in the crime. The incident, he said, was result of a land dispute. Badbher police said that all the accused had escaped.
In another incident Mohammad Jalil son of Haji Rahim of Bahadur Kalay was shot dead by unidentified persons at his residence on Monday morning.
Complainant Mohammad Iqbal, brother of the victim, said he did not know as to who had killed his brother.
Meanwhile, an elderly man identified as Sher Mohammad son of Zamir Khan
of Speena Wrhai was killed when he was busy in resolving a family dispute in his village.
According to police the deceased was trying to resolve a dispute between two families when he received bullet injuries. The people, they said, exchanged hot words which led to armed clash and as a result a jirga member was killed.
A complainant Noor Jamal Shah son of Syed Qasim Shah registered a case agaisnt Mehfooz Khan and Syed Kamran both sons of Mustafa Jan of the same village.
In the another incident, a woman Shaheen wife of Shamshad resident of Garhi Fazal Haq Peer Bala reportedly committed suicide by shooting herself with a pistol in her house. Police quoting her husband said that she was mentally upset.
