GUJRANWALA, Oct 12: Sewage and shitty water flooded Gakkhar on Sunday after the strike by sanitary workers and their supervisors entered the seventh day. Workers are protesting the non-payment of their salaries.
Sanitary workers refused to call off their week-long strike despite an assurance by the municipal administration that their salaries would be released soon.
Now, almost all gutters are choked and shitty water flowing in streets and bazaars.
Heaps of garbage are also lying unattended.
Gakkhar Town Chief Officer Habibur Rehman said that sanitary workers salaries would be given salaries in the next two days.
ACCIDENTS: A constable died and 25 other passengers were injured in two road accidents. Constable Riaz Mand was traveling along with his colleague Zulfiqar in a car.
When they reached Near Eminabad on GT Road, a truck hit the car and Riaz died instantly while his colleague was admitted to hospital in a critical position.
In another accident, a Gujranwala-to-Wazirabad bus overturned near Rahwali leaving 25 passengers injured. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to hospital.
