Ijaz good choice to run PCB: Dr Nasim

TORONTO, Oct 11: Dr Nasim Ashraf, former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has hailed the appointment of Ijaz Butt as the country’s new cricket chief.

“I think it is a good change and I welcome Ijaz’s appointment. I am confident he will deliver for the cause of cricket in Pakistan,” Dr Nasim said here on Saturday.

Dr Nasim specially flew in here from New York to witness the opening match between Pakistan and Canada in the Twenty20 quadrangular tournament here at the Kings City ground on Friday.

He said the new chairman, who is also a former Test cricketer, has sufficient experience and knowledge to run the PCB in a professional manner.

“He has served the game in different roles and he was also a member of the [PCB] Governing Board. I firmly believe he is a good choice to run the board,” he added.

Dr Nasim, who resigned in August, avoided questions regarding continuation of his polices, terms and conditions of coach Geoff Lawson’s appointment and present affairs of the board.

“I am here to enjoy cricket and I am delighted that this tournament is finally taking place. It will help in promoting cricket in Canada,” he stated.

“I am not taking any credit but I put in a lot of efforts from the PCB to help organise this event — just to supplement the ongoing efforts for the popularity of cricket here,” the former Pakistan Cricket Board chief expressed.—APP
