KARACHI: Parricide suspect surrenders to police

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 10: The man who had allegedly killed his elderly parents and a nephew on October 7 (Tuesday) in his Federal B Area residence surrendered himself to police on Friday.

A reportedly dissolute young man of 28 years of age, Nusrat Saad, had fled the house after stabbing to death his 72-year-old father Nisar Ahmed, a retired banker; mother Zakia Ahmed; and his 18-year-old maternal nephew, Sannan, also called Sunny.Gulberg Town SP Allauddin Abbasi told Dawn that the suspect walked into the Gulberg police station and surrendered himself to the police.

“I have interviewed him and he doesn’t seem to be insane, but a person who killed his parents cannot be described as normal,” SP Abbasi said.

“They used to abuse me and used foul language against me, so I killed them,” police quoted the suspect as saying.

SP Abbasi claimed that the police had issued 150 to 200 posters bearing pictures of the suspect, and these posters forced the suspect to surrender himself to police.Police will produce the suspect in court on Saturday to obtain his physical remand.

Police said the suspect was a drug addict and had a history of quarrels with his parents.

He used to demand money from his parents to do drugs, police said.

Hospital sources said the victims received multiple stabs in the October 7 carnage. They said the teenaged victim received the maximum number of stab wounds.

The victims were found butchered in their house in Block 17 at around 10.30am when the eldest son of the victim couple entered the house after breaking the door down.

Police said the suspect had killed the victims sometime early in the morning. They said he also took a shower before leaving the house after the crime.

Victims’ family members told Dawn that Nisar Ahmed, father of five daughters and three sons, had retired from the State Bank of Pakistan as vice-president seven years ago.

They said Sannan had been living with his maternal grandfather after the death of his father, while his mother was living with his other two siblings in Malir Colony.

One of the family members said the teenaged victim was a bright student who had secured ‘A’ grade in his matric examinations.
