THATTA, Oct 9: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday blamed what he called ‘misconceived and ill-planned economic policies of the previous government’, for pushing the system to the brink of bankruptcy.
Addressing a gathering in Keti Bundar after inspecting 10 model low-cost houses built under the People’s Housing Scheme (PHS) at a cost of Rs2.7 million for the poor, Mr Shah said that the PPP government was trying to improve the situation.
He stressed that such sincere projects would directly benefit the poor in the province and said that his government would continue its pro-people policies to materialise its slogan of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan”.
He said that under the PHS some 10,000 shelters would be provided to the homeless people of coastline including Kharochhan, Keti Bundar, Baghan and other areas.
He said that a total of 500,000 low-cost houses would be constructed throughout the province. The scheme was being carried out by the UNDP, a trustworthy organisation of the UN, he added.
Mr Shah said his government was accountable to people and would continue to govern them according to their wishes of common man, whose sincerity, love and unwavering faith had brought the party into power.
He said that his government would create 10,000 jobs for the jobless youth of the province and the deserving youth would get their legitimate right exclusively on merit.
His government had convinced and invited donors to invest in various fields.
The chief minister disclosed that many officers had been stuck up in different departments since 15 to 16 years on contract basis while the deserving people were waiting for their turn.
The government would discourage such a policy of favouritism and nepotism, he added.
Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Sassui Palijo expressed concern over probable devastation due to what she claimed the ill-planned RBOD and said its building would ruin the legendary Keenjhar Lake and protected sanctuary of Haleji Lake besides doing harm to coastal village. She suggested remodelling the RBOD.
