KARACHI: 21 vehicles, drugs seized; 20 suspects held


KARACHI, Oct 9: Twenty suspects of vehicle snatching/theft committed in different areas of the city were arrested in a fresh drive against criminals, SSP of the Anti-Carlifting Unit (ACLU) Dr Amin Yousufzai told a press conference here on Thursday.

He said 15 cars, five motorcycles, a dumper, as well as fake registration books and number plates, were recovered from the possession of the suspects. Five pistols and two kilogrammes of charas and heroin were also seized, he added, claiming that two of the suspects were wanted in some murder cases.

The SSP said that acting upon a tip-off, a place near Abdullah College in Nazimabad was raided and suspects Mohan Lal and Bilawal were arrested. On their information, police recovered a car (ABF-966) and a dumper (KTV-496) lifted in Clifton and Ibrahim Hydri police stations, respectively.

Another team of the ACLU arrested suspects Mohammad Zeeshan, Mohammad Nadeem, Irfan Shafiq, Hakim Ali, Shahnawaz and Ali Zaman. Their arrests led to the recovery of cars bearing registration numbers ABW-211, APN-184, CK-5479, ABH-268, AFF-966 and a motorcycle bearing registration number KCV-240. The vehicles were snatched or stolen from the jurisdictions of Sharea Faisal, Frere, Korangi and Preedy police stations.

A third ACLU team arrested Nasir Niazi, Allah Buksh, Asif Khan, Ali Mast, Shafeeq Ahmed Qadri, Mohammad Shahid, Shahid Hussain, Mohammad Saleem and Malik Sohail Ahmed. Stolen/snatched cars bearing registration numbers QAJ-7831, F-2856, CS-5082, D-7917, ANV-287, AKT-609, G-9986 and AKR-861, and motorcycles bearing registration numbers KDK-4782, LXG-2947 and LOX-5598 were recovered.

Dr Yousufzai said that suspect Malik Sohail was wanted in 30 car-lifting cases. A murder case was also registered against him at the Baldia police station, he said. Irfan Shafiq was also wanted in a murder case registered at the A-section police station, Hyderabad, he added.—Staff Reporter
