Roti crisis deepens

Published October 9, 2008

LAHORE, Oct 8: The roti crisis deepened on Wednesday as it was available at Rs5 in almost all parts of the city.

The Lahore city district government has failed to ensure the sale of roti at Rs2 since Eid. Shopkeepers claim they are not being provided subsidised flour by the government for sale of roti at Rs2, while authorities say the case is otherwise.

Though the city government has evolved an inspection mechanism in this regard, its presence on the ground is hardly felt.
