Bhakkar blast: DPO booked, made OSD

Published October 9, 2008

LAYYAH, Oct 8: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday made the Bhakkar district police officer (DPO) the officer on special duty (OSD) for poor security, which resulted in a suicide attack on a Pakistan People’s Party MNA on Oct 6.

DPO Ahmed Kamal has now been directed to report to the Punjab Services and General Administration Department immediately.

Separately, the Bhakkar police have registered a case against Kamal for not providing security to MNA Rashid Akbar Niwani.

In the FIR, plaintiff Qaisar Abbas alleged that it was the DPO’s incompetence which resulted in a suicide attack on the MNA.

He said the DPO withdrew policemen deployed for the security of the MNA and other members of the Niwani family.

Plaintiff Abbas is the son of Mulazim Hussain, who looks after a brick kiln owned by the MNA.

Moreover, the police have released the sketch of the suspected suicide bomber.
