DADU, Oct 8: Traders staged a demonstration in front of the press club here on Tuesday in protest against the police’s failure to check the rapid increase in crimes in the city.

The protesting traders led by Ashfaq Panhwar, Abdullah Mallah, and Rafique Ahmed, marched through different roads of the town and raised slogans against the police.

Mr Panhwar said that armed men snatched motorcycles from Saddam Shaikh, Javed Soomro, Abdullah Mallah and Rafique Ahmed and looted valuables from other people and Rs50,000 cash from a medical store.

Meanwhile, a delegation of citizens, led by Citizens Action Committee president Nadeem Ahmed Ghallo and Councillor Soni Solangi called on DPO Pervez Ahmed Chandio in his office and complained against Dadu police for allegedly supporting gambling and narcotic dens in the city.

They alleged that the police were minting money from these dens and were not taking any action against the criminals.

Meanwhile, residents of Haji Siddiq Joyo village, including women and children, staged a demonstration in Mehar to protest against the Mehar police for not arresting the suspects in the murder case of Mehboob Ali Joyo who was shot dead by armed men a few days back.

They were led by Sohbat Joyo, the brother of the deceased. They set fire to tyres on various roads, carried banners and raised slogans against the local police.

Sohbat Ali Joyo said that eight men Mithal, Abdul Rashid, Bashir Bakhshal, and five others had been nominated in the FIR but police had so far not arrested any of them. He claimed that he had been receiving life threats from the suspects. He appealed to the police high-ups to direct the Mehar police to arrest those nominated in the FIR.

Primary school teachers and students also boycotted classes in Haji Siddique Joyo village and the surrounding villages demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

ACCIDENT: A local leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, Saleem Baloch, was killed and his driver was injured when his car collided with a pick-up on Indus Highway at Lakhi Shah Saddar.
