SAHIWAL, Oct 7: The distribution of Benazir Income Support Programme forms has begun here, but Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers and office-bearers are not happy with the mode of distribution.
Each MNA has been given 8,000 forms for distribution in his constituency. However, PPP workers and office-bearers feel deprived and seek share in the forms equal to the share of MNAs. On this issue PPP’s district leadership is with the party workers, contending that forms should be distributed through the party’s district and tehsil offices instead of MNAs.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Pir Imran Shah has started distribution of forms among urban people of his constituency, while PPP MNA Malik Ghulam Farid Kathiya is distributing forms among needy people of his rural constituency. PPP workers also have reservations about the distribution of these forms through PML-N lawmakers therefore they argue that these forms should be distributed through the PPP’s district and tehsil office-bearers.
It is said that Punjab chief minister’s Food Stamp Scheme was solely managed by PML-N MPAs. Punjab Food Minister Nadeem Kamran allegedly obliged his voters through this scheme.
“PPP workers were not given due share in this scheme. All forms were distributed among PML-N supporters and voters,” says PPP Sahiwal district general secretary Ali Imran Jan.
Now, under the Benazir Income Support Programme, PML-N MNA Pir Imran Shah has been given 8,000 forms for distribution among his supporters.
“Obviously, Shah will distribute these forms among his voters,” says Azhar Kahloo of the PPP’s youth wing.
PPP MNA Farid Kathiya is also with party workers on this issue. Kathiya, who is also president of the PPP’s district chapter, and his MPA Hafeez Akhtar have demanded time and again that the party should distribute these forms through its officer-bearers instead of MNAs.
“I will raise the issue in the upcoming session of the parliament and hope this scheme will be implemented through party office-bearers,” he told Dawn.
