HYDERABAD, Oct 5: Local jewellers observed a strike on Sunday in protest against a burglary in a jewellery shop in Phulelli area on Friday night.

Almost all the jewellers’ shops in Phulelli, Shahi Bazaar, Resham Bazaar, Unit No.8 and 11 Latifabad and Tayyab Complex were closed and a large number of jewellers led by the leaders of All-Hyderabad Sarrafa and Jewellers Group held a demonstration outside the press club.

They demanded immediate recovery of gold and silver ornaments and arrest of culprits within shortest possible time.

Reports said that some burglars broke into Shahab Jewellers’ shop in Phulelli area on Friday night and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.

DEMO: A large number of job seekers held a demonstration outside the press club on Sunday in protest against denial of appointment letters and publication of a fresh advertisement for teachers’ jobs.

Manzoor Arisar, Jetho Mal and Jalal Shah, who were leading the protest, said that after passing an IBA-conducted test for teachers’ jobs they had been protesting for weeks against denial of appointment letters but instead of giving them job letters the education department had placed a new advertisement in newspapers for teachers’ jobs.

They said that the slogan of merit was just a hoax and rejected the condition of 60 per cent marks to pass the job test.

There was a great difference in the standard of education in rural and urban areas, they argued.

They reiterated that the World Bank had not imposed the condition of 60 per cent marks. The fresh advertisement had been published to appoint teachers on political and not on merit basis.
