RAWALPINDI, Oct 5: The ministry of interior has directed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps for removal of billboards installed on VVIP routes in the wake of intelligence reports that it could be a security threat.

Security agencies in their reports have said all billboards displayed on the roadside and buildings along Islamabad Highway, Karal Chowk, Airport Chowk, Flying Club Chowk, Chaklala Base Chowk, Rawal Road, Katchery Chowk, Shakrial Chowk, Ammar Chowk, Ghanda Chichi and other important places on VVIP route were a security threat.

A source on Sunday said the interior minister had directed the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, Rawalpindi Development Authority, Capital Development Authority and the district administrations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to initiate steps for the removal of these giant billboards.

The source said the decision was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the country.

Following this, notices have been issued to the authorities concerned for the removal of the billboards.—APP
