LAHORE, Oct 5: A handful of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) members will not be allowed to sabotage the lawyers’ movement, says a Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) representative.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, SCBA Secretary-General Chaudhry Amin Javed said the lawyers’ movement was for a national cause and a few PBC members were not authorised to call it off.

He said only the National Coordination Council, which consisted of representatives of PBC and bar associations from across the country, was authorised to decide the movement’s future.

He said the council would take decisions about boycott of courts, sit-ins and rallies in its meeting in Karachi on Oct 6 (today).

Javed said lawyers were determined to continue their movement till the restoration of all deposed judges. He said national unity was no doubt need of the hour to counter terrorism and external threats, but it could not be promoted without a genuine democracy and an independent judiciary.
