They said that the arrested persons were innocent and had nothing to do with the abduction of the Chinese engineers. They complained that the government was nabbing innocent people instead of taking concrete steps for the recovery of the Chinese nationals.
They said China was one of the closet friends of Pakistan and those involved in its engineers’ abduction could not be loyal Pakistanis They demanded of the government to immediately free the arrested persons.
Senator Maulana Gul Nasib appealed to the Taliban to set the Chinese engineers free as the incident could hurt friendship between the two countries.
The speakers criticised the role of provincial and federal governments regarding the matter and demanded practical steps to recover the kidnapped engineers.
The grand peace jirga members also condemned the lawmakers from the district and alleged that after getting elected in Feb 18 elections they had not been concentrating on people’s grievances. They alleged that no lawmaker had ever attended the jirga.
It merits a mention here that two Chinese engineers were kidnapped on August 29 from the Khall area of Lower Dir.
