Discarded Yasir hopes to play in Canada T20

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: While some 26 probables have been called for the four-nation event scheduled to be held in Toronto from Oct 10, the selection committee for Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Twenty20 tournament is missing an important all-rounder — Yasir Arafat — from its list.

While speaking to Dawn on Saturday, Yasir, who remained an important member of Pakistan’s runners-up squad at the ICC Twenty20 World Championship last year, said: “I hope to be among the Canada-bound Twenty20 players.”

The flamboyant all-rounder, who has recently concluded a successful county season with Kent, claiming 88 wickets in one-day and Twenty20 matches, is often considered a limited-overs specialist. Presently, the all-rounder is representing Rawalpindi Rams in the RBS National Twenty20 Cup. “I am fully fit, in good form and confident enough to perform well in bowling and batting in the National Twenty20 Cup,” he asserted.

When asked about Yasir’s inclusion for the Canada Twenty20 event, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Media Director Mansoor Suhail said: “It all depends on Yasir’s performance in the national Twenty20 championship.”

The PCB selectors are expected to announce the team for the Canada event at the conclusion of the national Twenty20 event on Oct 8.
