HYDERABAD, Oct 4: The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union has complained of undue favours in the transfers and postings of Wapda officials.
A three-member delegation of the union led by its central president, Abdul Latif Nizamani, registered this complaint with the managing director of the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), Fazal Ahmed Khan, during a meeting.
The delegation informed the Pepco chief that such undue favours and politically-motivated postings of officials were a great hurdle in the development of the Wapda.
The delegates alleged that senior officials of the Wapda approached the elected representatives to get posting orders of their choice.
The union leaders said that such postings and transfers were not only violation of merit but were also adversely affecting the overall performance of the organisation.
They urged the Pepco chief to take appropriate measures to check the practice in the larger interest of the organisation.
They further proposed that the condition of matriculation for appointment of a lineman should be waived and middle-pass candidates should be recruited on this post, which would definitely increase the efficiency of the organisation.
They said that vacant posts should be filled, new sub-divisions should be created and the sanctioned strength of employees should be increased as the workload had also tremendously increased.
The Pepco chief is reported to have assured the CBA leaders to discuss all the problems of the employees during his next detailed meeting with the workers and union leaders.
Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by the CBA union, 53 children of the deceased employees of the Wapda who had died in the line of duty had been offered jobs in the Wapda according to an agreement between the CBA union and the authority.
