N.As internet users face connectivity problem

GILGIT, Oct 4: Internet users are facing connectivity problem thanks to the system of lone internet service provider, Special Communication Organization, being dead slow. The users have to dial dozens of times to connect but internet hardly logs on to the annoyance of almost all subscribers.

When contacted the authorities of SCO said it was trying to improve its system and shortly the users would experience a fastest and modern internet system but for that they would have to wait.

Earlier, Comsats enjoyed monopoly and used to charge the subscribers here five times more than the rates it charged in rest of the country.

However, it closed its system after SCO launched internet service and begun to provide the facility at cheapest rate.

EID CELEBRATIONS OVER: Extraordinary traffic on Karakuram Highway and other roads of the region is being experienced for last 10 hours as people are returning to Gilgit, capital town of Northern Areas, to resume work after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with their kiths and kin in their native areas.

Gilgit, being a capital town, is home to various government, non-governmental and private offices.

However, business was in full swing in local markets belonging to other parts of the country so they also turned up. Educational institutions would reopen on Monday.

There was no official holiday in Gilgit on Saturday but attendance was thin in office particularly in government one.

Boy drowns in Indus River: A boy drowned in Indus River at Hudur Village of Chilas, Headqaurter of Diamer District.

His body could not be recovered, police sources said.

According to Police, Malik, 16, was swimming in the Indus River when he lost control while crossing it and was swept away.

On receipt of information his family members and local volunteers started to search for his body but to no avail.
