Eight killed as bus plunges into ditch
HYDERABAD, Oct 4: Eight passengers of a bus including a woman were killed and 26 others were injured when a bus on Moya road turning near Ansari Sugar Mills, Tando Mohammad Khan, plunged into Sim Nullah on Saturday.
The Matli-bound bus was being driven by its conductor and when it reached a turning on the road, he lost control of the vehicle reportedly due to over speeding and it fell into Sim Nullah as a result of which eight persons including a woman were killed and 26 others were injured.
The deceased were identified as Arbab Chang, Veerji Kohli, Soomji Kohli, Ms Madhu Kohli, Wajid Behrani, Bismillah Khan, Nawab Noohani and an unidentified person. Some of the injured were identified as Mohammad Moosa, Amin, Urs, Ms Ghulam Fatima, Misri, Sarwar, Shalu, Mannu, Sallu, Veelio Kohli and others.
The injured were shifted to Tando Mohammad Khan and Matli hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased had been placed at the morgue of the Matli taluka hospital. The conductor of the bus could not be traced.
HEPATITIS: The president of the People’s Doctors Forum Sindh, Dr Karim Bux Khwaja, and the district president of the People’s Lawyers Forum, Tando Mohammad Khan, Mohammad Ali Qureshi have expressed grave concern over the spread of hepatitis.
They said that 35 to 37 per cent of the population of Sindh had been suffering from hepatitis.
They were speaking at a news conference at Tando Mohammad Khan on Saturday. Dr Khwaja feared that the number of hepatitis patients would further increase during the coming years.
The situation was alarming, he said, adding that to combat this situation, the government had constituted a federal task force under the new health policy.
He said that for the treatment of hepatitis patients, the WHO had undertaken to distribute medicines for 350 patients in each government hospital throughout the province. He said that the laboratory tests and treatment of patients would be done free of cost.
Dr Karim Khwaja said that a five-member committee had already been constituted in Sindh to achieve the objectives of the new health policy.
