KARACHI: 500kg charas seized

Published October 5, 2008

KARACHI, Oct 4: Jamshed Town police arrested two suspected drug-peddlers and recovered more than 500 kilograms of Charas from a den in Chanesar Goth on Saturday.

Claiming the recovery as the year’s largest seizure of narcotic substance, officials said the police acting on a tip-off raided a street believed to be occupied by drug peddlers in Chanesar Goth. After a brief encounter, they arrested two suspects associated with a well-organised gang.

“The suspects – Sarzameen alias Qazi and Kaku Shah – were actually members of a large gang operated by Farooq Lala,” said Javed Akbar Riaz, SP Jamshed Town.

In fact the raid was conducted for the arrest of nine wanted criminals, but police could only arrest the two suspects as others managed to escape under the cover of fire during the shootout with the police.
