KARACHI, Sept 30: Despite a fine all-round performance by Waqas Haroon, Dewan Farooq Motors failed to prevent the KESC from winning the 21st Aga Khan Gymkhana Ramazan cricket tournament at the AKG Ground here on Tuesday.

Waqas claimed two wickets and scored a breezy 69, but his heroics went in vain as KESC clinched the final by 20 runs after bowling out Dewan Farooq Motors for 135 in 19.4 overs.

However, Waqas, who slammed four sixes and five fours in his 51-ball knock, had the satisfaction of being adjudged Man-of-the-Match.

Spinners Arif Mahmood and Misbah Khan captured two wickets apiece while four of the DFM batsmen were run out.

Earlier, KESC, who on Monday had won the Karachi Gymkhana Cricket Festival, were restricted to 155 for nine in their 20 overs after openers Sarfraz Ahmed and skipper Javed Mansoor had put on 80 in 61 balls.

Sarfraz, the young Pakistan wicket-keeper/batsman, hit 59 off 41 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. Javed made 39 off 22 balls with a six and a four.

Sarfraz was declared Man-of-the-Tournament for making 309 runs and eight dismissals (three catches and five stumpings).

Waqas Haroon won the best batsman award for scoring 199 runs while Misbah took the best bowler prize for taking 10 wickets in the tournament. Sikander Khan of Aga Khan Gymkhana ‘A’ won the best fielder for holding five catches and effecting four run outs.

Ex-Test bowler Jalaluddin graced the final as the chief guest in the company of national selector Saleem Jaffer. KESC were awarded the winners’ cash prize of Rs70,000 while DFM skipper Adnan Kaleem collected the runners-up award of Rs30,000.
