Brave Heart lands feature event at LRC

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Sept 30: Four-year-old dark bay colt Brave Heart underlined his vast improvement with a facile victory to land the feature event run over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Tuesday.

In view of Eid-ul-Fitr, the races scheduled for Wednesday were held a day earlier.

Setting a hot pace, Brave Heart warded off a strong challenge from filly Dream Memories, leading all the way home to win the race by one and a half lengths. Dam Dama Dam and Murad King completed the frame in a big field of 15 runners.

Ridden by the riding boy Naseer Ahmad, Brave Heart was trained by Mohammad Siddiq. Strangely enough Brave Heart finished fifth only two days ago, on September 28, under the riding boy Majid Ali.

The best performer of the day was the three-year-old bay colt Golden Falcon, who won the last race. Trained by Mohammad Hanif and ridden by M. Waseem Khan, Golden Falcon held off strong challenge from fillies Sana My Love and Pretty when he picked up the pace with 200 metres to go. It was the colt’s second win in a row.

It was a day of even exchanges between punters and bookmakers when three favourites — Brave Heart, Boby Love and Golden Falcon — won in a card of six events. The other events were won by long shots.

The opener was annexed by the four-to-one blue-roan filly Fakhar-e-Sialkot, who came rushing from far behind to beat Mahima by one-and-a-half lengths. The bay gelding High Quality finished third while favourite filly Luka Toni completed the frame.

Favourite colt, Brave Heart won the second race, which incidentally was the feature event.

The four-to-one chance bay mare Scented Dust registered a surprise win in the third race. She beat the heavily-backed Easy Load by over a length. Come On and Pure Power completed the board.

Another long shot chestnut horse Book Bet upset all calculations to win the fourth race, defeating favourite Client by over a length. Again the favourite Golden Falcon won the sixth and last race to bring the punters and bookmakers at par in the day’s proceedings.

Trainer Aleem-ud-Din highlighted the pre Eid-ul-Fitr gymkhana races with a lucrative double through Fakhar-e-Sialkot and Book Bet, both available at attractive odds.
