Several feared dead in Darra air strike

KOHAT, Sept 29: A number of militants belonging to Darra Adamkhel are believed to have been killed and injured in air strikes by helicopter gunships in Chappar area of the Orakzai region on Monday morning.

The political agent of the Orakzai agency, Mr Kamran Zeb, confirmed the strikes and said that there was information that militants fleeing from Darra Adamkhel had moved to the Orakzai region and were planning terrorist attacks.

Security personnel have arrested a number of militant commanders in Hangu and Darra Adamkhel over the past two months.He said the army took action on the basis of concrete information about presence militants in the area.

Earlier reports said that three explosives-laden trucks had been destroyed by helicopters at the border between Orakzai and Khyber agency. Two suicide bombers were killed and a number of militants were injured in the strike. Kamran Zeb said he had information that the helicopters targeted two vehicles in which militants from Darra and some local people were moving around on Monday morning.
