Two killed in attacks on Eid shoppers in India

By Jawed Naqvi

NEW DELHI, Sept 29: Two persons were killed in separate blasts in India’s Gujarat and Maharashtra states on Monday night and initial reports indicated Eid shoppers were the target in at least one.

CNN-IBN channel said in the Gujarat blast, one Muslim boy died and five injured in a blast near a restaurant in Modasa town in Sabarkantha district.

Another person was killed and three injured in Malegaon, Maharashtra, when a bomb went off in front of a mosque.

According to initial reports, crude bombs were used in the two blasts.

Zeenews quoted police as saying a low intensity blast took place in Modasa’s Super Bazaar area. The blast is reported to have taken place at a time when a large crowd had congregated in the market before Eid.

Also in Maharashtra, a cylinder blast outside a restaurant injured five people.

Earlier in the day 17 crude bombs were recovered from a rubbish bin in Ahmedabad.
