SHIKARPUR: Town observes strike against lawlessness

By Our Correspondent

SHIKARPUR, Sept 29: Townspeople observed shutter-down strike in Khanpur town on Monday in protest against growing lawlessness in the area.

They held a rally, which was led by Mohammad Qasim Pathan and union council nazim Sajid Latif Sethar and staged a demonstration at Murtaza Chowk.

The leaders demanded that the chief minister, home minister, IGP Sindh, RPO Sukkur, DIG Larkana and DPO Shikarpur bring lawlessness under control in Khanpur town and ensure protection of life, honour and property.

The protesters also demanded transfer of the SHO of Khanpur and other police officers, who had failed to maintain peace in the area.

LOOTED: Highwaymen looted passengers of a number of vehicles after blocking a road near Jamra village in the jurisdiction of Lakhi police station late on Sunday night.

Reports reaching here said that the highwaymen forced the traffic on both sides of the road by opening fire on a trailer and robbed drivers and passengers.

No one was reported injured in the firing. Police have denied reports of robbery but confirmed firing on a trailer by dacoits.

KILLED: One Ali Nawaz Chandio was killed and two others suffered serious injuries in a clash between two rival groups of Chandio tribe in Ali Gul Chandio village in the jurisdiction of Mian Sahib police station on Monday.

The clash is reported to have been an offshoot of an old enmity between the two groups.
