DERA GHAZI KHAN, Sept 28: As many as 700 tehsil administration workers led by the nazim went on a strike for an indefinite period against illegal occupation of city’s disposal works site spreading over 14 kanals.

The site was being used for disposing off sewage from all over the city for the last 60 years.

Scores of TMA workers led by tehsil nazim Mehmood Qadir Leghari gathered on the site to resist illegal occupation by some land gabbers who pelted them with bricks.

The nazim repeatedly called police for help but the force did not turn up.

Later, the nazim held a news conference and announced strike on behalf of 700 TMA workers till the end of illegal occupation. He, however, said the workers would continue water supply to the city.

He appealed to citizens to raise their voice against grabbers of the public property.

PROTEST: Residents of Malana village took out a procession to protest against local police for allegedly entering a house and torturing a pregnant woman resulting in miscarriage.

Reports said police entered Yaseen’s house to arrest him in a theft case but met resistance by women of the family. Police allegedly subjected a pregnant woman, Aysha Bibi, to torture who suffered miscarriage.

The protesters chanted slogans against police and demanded action against those involved in the incident.
