JACOBABAD, Sept 28: Speakers at an educational conference have stressed the need for a major overhaul of the education system in the country and for making education accessible to all.

They called for the reopening of all closed schools in the province and award of scholarships and stipends to meritorious students to study abroad.

The conference, which was organised by the Jamiat Tulaba-i-Islam (JTI) in Mehmood Hall here on Sunday, was attended by a large number of JTI activists and students.

Speaking as chief guest, the JTI’s district secretary-general, Dr A.G. Ansari, urged the government to take bold and practical steps for the uplift of the educational standards and for the improvement of the overall education system.He deplored that the education system of the country had totally collapsed and future of the nation’s children was at risk.

Pointing out the condition of the existing schools in the province, Mr Ansari said that most of the buildings of schools and colleges were in bad shape. He urged the relevant authorities to pay attention to this issue and to take immediate measures in this regard.

Hafiz Mir Mohammad Banglani deplored that the education system introduced by Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay during the British rule was still in place.

The JTI secretary-general, Jacobabad, Taj Mehmood Umroti, said that his party wanted implementation of a better system of education in the country and would continue their struggle till achievement of the desired goal.
