LESC SDO suspended

LAHORE, Sept 27: Lahore Electric Supply Company Chief Executive Akram Arain on Saturday ordered suspension of Bilal Colony sub-divisional officer for ‘criminal negligence’ resulting in electrocution of a lineman, Muhammad Yaqub, while working on an 11KV line on Friday.

Talking to a Pakistan Wapda Hydro-Electric Central Labour Union delegation here he said Lesco would take all possible steps for the welfare of the families of all its employees who died in harness. Jobs would also be provided to the children of deceased employees in accordance with the rules, he added.

Union Secretary-General Khurshid Ahmed said another Lineman, Rajab Ali Khan, had also been electrocuted while working on an 11KV line in Kharian Sub-Division during the past days. As many as 17 Line Staff members had lost their lives in accidents at work during the past one month, he added.

He said fatal accidents at work were a tragedy for the families of the deceased workers on the one hand and deprived the electric supply companies of the services of experienced employees on the other.
