KARACHI, Sept 26: Veteran slow left-arm spinner Arif Mahmood captured top four wickets besides making a valuable 30 runs to put Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) into the Karachi Gymkhana Twenty20 Ramazan cricket tournament semi-finals, beating Qasmi Cricket Club by 20 runs at the KG Ground on Thursday.

Arif finished with excellent figures of four wickets for 22 in his four overs. Earlier, he smashed three sixes and a four in his unbeaten knock of 30 off 15 balls to claim the man-of-the-match award. Sarfraz Ahmed again excelled with the bat, scoring a solid 53 off 33 balls with six hits to the boundary and two over it to lift the KESC, batting first, to 177-5. Daniyal Ahsan made 36 with two fours. When Qasmi CC batted, Arif proved to be their tormentor with his deadly spin.

Opener Iqbal Sheikh played a defiant knock of 80 off 56 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes while Talha Faheem blasted 42 with six boundaries. However, all their efforts went in vain as their team were restricted to 157-7 at the end of the 20th over.

Summarised scores:

KESC 177-6 in 20 overs (Sarfraz Ahmed 53, Daniyal Ahsan 36, Arif Mahmood 30 not out, Akbar Rehman 25; Mansoor Ahmed 2-34); QASMI CC 157-7 in 20 overs (Iqbal Sheikh 80, Talha Faheem 42; Arif Mahmood 4-22).—APP
