Procedures to run PCB discussed at meeting
By Our Sports Reporter
LAHORE, Sept 25: The work to finalise the modalities to run the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the Sports Ministry is still on, said federal Sports Secretary Ashraf Khan on Thursday.
Talking to Dawn, Ashraf said in his first meeting with PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Shafqat Naghmi in Lahore on Wednesday, certain discussions were held to make the functioning of the board smooth. However, he added, no decision was taken.
The Federal Sports Ministry, after making an amendment in the PCB constitution, took control of the board on Monday till the appointment of new chairman.
The PCB has been running without a chairman since Aug 18, after Dr Nasim Ashraf resigned.
A two-member delegation of the Sports Ministry comprising Ashraf Khan and Joint Secretary Anwar Khan visited the PCB offices on Wednesday to decide the modalities for running the board.
“We have discussed matters with the PCB officials on Wednesday and brought with us some papers which will guide us about the powers of the different PCB officials,” Ashraf stated.
“Under the light of those powers the ministry will adopt its next course of action,” he added.
He reiterated the ministry had taken the control under the constitution of Pakistan, just to continue the PCB’s operations in the absence of its chairman.
