Makli graves not damaged: inquiry report

HYDERABAD, Sept 25: The Executive District Officer (revenue) of Thatta has said in a report to the Sindh Minister for Revenue and Relief that no archaeological or historical site or grave has been damaged or defaced in the Makli necropolis.

The report, a copy which was faxed to Dawn, said that after receiving the minister’s directives on phone, inquiries were conducted through the district officer revenue. The deputy district officer revenue was directed to visit the site and conduct a thorough inquiry into media reports that khatedar Ghulam Qadir Palijo was allegedly damaging the historical graveyard in Makli.
