NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Sept 25: A teenaged girl was shot dead in her home in the Jamal Kalhoro village of Kandiaro taluka early on Thursday morning by one of the men who had forced her into court marriage after kidnapping about a year ago and kept her confined in a room in Karachi.

Her father had brought her from Karachi just two days ago.

Shahnawaz Kalhoro, his brother Fida Hussain Kalhoro and three others forced into the house of Ms Zohran, 19, and shot her dead, said the girl’s father Ali Gohar Kalhoro in an FIR.

He said that Shahnawaz Kalhoro had kidnapped his daughter about a year ago and later forced her into court marriage on Aug 13, 2007 in Mehar. He had lodged an FIR the same day against Shahnawaz and his accomplices at Pipri police station, he said.

He said that a few days ago he received a phone call from his daughter revealing that Shahnawaz had kept her confined in a room in Karachi and had been subjecting her to torture.

He rushed to Karachi to help her, somehow got her out of the house where she had been confined and produced her in a court of law, which let her live with him.

Sources close to the family said that Ms Zohran was pregnant when she was killed but Dr Lubna Ghanghro at Kandiaro taluka hospital who carried out post mortem of the body did not confirm it. She would be able to say something about pregnancy after getting X-ray report, which would be available on Friday, she said.

The sources said that Ali Gohar had brought her daughter from Karachi to the village two days ago and on Thursday she was killed.

Police had not made any arrest till the filing of this report.

ARREST: Khan Wahan police arrested on Thursday a drug peddler, Suhillo Jamro, and found 5kg charas in his possession, which he had brought from Hingorja.
