Lawyers boycott courts

Published September 26, 2008

RAWALPINDI, Sept 25: Lawyers here on Thursday observed complete boycott of the court proceedings in a protest against delay in the restoration of the deposed judges including Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The lawyers, who were not in large number, on the occasion held a meeting in the hall of Rawalpindi Bar Association and criticised the government for not reinstating the judges.

On the occasion, president High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Rawalpindi Chapter Sardar Asmatullah hoped that the lawyers’ struggle would be reignited after Eid and that it would continue till the restoration of all the deposed judges.

President RBA Sardar Tariq Masod said conduct of the lawyers now sitting in the Pakistan Bar Council had become indifferent towards the movement of the lawyers. Therefore, he added, the law practitioners had constituted a National Action Council to lead their movement. He said the legal fraternity would not sit idle till the return of Iftikhar Chaudhry as chief justice.
