KARACHI: Three shot dead in separate incidents

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 25: Three people were shot dead on Thursday in separate incidents in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

The Sohrab Goth police said that a 35-year-old man was killed when unknown attackers opened fire on his Prado jeep near Gabol Goth.

They said Mohammed Asif Gabol, owner of the Gabol Goth, was on his way along with his friend, Ghulam Nabi Gabol, a real estate dealer, when two attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on their vehicle at around 2pm.

The police said that the landlord was shot and killed instantly and the attackers fled away from the scene immediately after their swift operation.

The area SHO, Inspector Ijaz Ahmed Rajpar, told Dawn that the actual target of the attackers was the real estate broker.

However, he said, Ghulam Nabi Gabol lodged a murder case (FIR 570/08) under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown culprits, who, according to the complainant, could be recognized if arrested.

Sources at the medico-legal department of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the body was shifted for an autopsy, said the victim received a single bullet wound to the head from a very close range as the bullet pierced through the skull.

Young tailor shot dead

A 24-year-old man was shot dead a little before Iftar at a roadside restaurant in Umer Colony, a shantytown behind China Building in Ferozabad.

The police said the victim, Wahid Hussain, and his friend, Shaukat, were sitting at the restaurant where four attackers on two motorcycles came there and targeted the victim, a tailor by profession. They said one of the assailants came to the victim and fired two shots, one in the leg and the other in the head.

The police said the victim, hailing from Rawalpindi, died instantly and later his body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.

They said the attackers, who had covered their faces with helmets, fled the scene after killing the man.

The police said the victim’s friend, Shaukat, was an eyewitness to the incident and the case against unknown culprits would be registered on his complaint.

They said the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal feud. The police said the attackers had a little dialogue with the victim before one of them shot him.

Qatl-bis-sabab

A 22-year-old man was killed incidentally by a private security guard at a cellular phone outlet in Gulistan Colony.

The Shah Latif Town police said the victim, Mohammed Iftikhar, a resident of the locality, was incidentally shot and killed by Bahadur Ali, who was taken into custody.

The area SHO, Inspector Ali Hasan, said the victim reached the phone outlet a little after the closure time at 5pm and he scuffled with the security guard to make his way in.

“During the scuffle the guard’s pistol went off and the bullet went through the victim’s chest,” he said.

The police officer said the victim, who died instantly, was a dealer in used cars.

He said that the security guard would be booked and arrested under Section 321 of the Pakistan Penal Code for Qatl-bis-sabab, an offence liable to Diyat.

According to the relevant section, whoever, without any intention to cause death of, or cause harm to, any person, does any unlawful act which becomes a cause for the death of another person, is said to commit qatl-bis-sabab.

Arrested

The Gulberg police arrested three suspected dacoits, two of them policemen, after a shootout near Ancholi on Thursday.

The suspects were identified as ASI Nasim, posted at the Samanabad police station, Head Constable Arshad and Abdur Razzaq.

The police seized three pistols from them.
