Six ships carrying wheat await berthing

KARACHI, Sep 25: Unnecessary delays are being suffered by the ships carrying wheat at Port Qasim and Karachi Port which is causing financial loss to the government and delaying transportation of grains to its different destinations in the country.

Six ships carrying a total of 271,550 metric tons of imported wheat are waiting at the outer anchorage of the two ports, four at Port Qasim and two at Karachi Port.

According to a TCP official, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is making efforts and constantly pressing authorities of respective ports to provide maximum berthing facility to wheat carrying vessels on a priority basis. He said that the delay in berthing was causing losses in the shape of heavy demurrage to national exchequer on the one hand and delaying delivery of wheat to acute shortage areas of the country, especially NWFP. —APP
