HYDERABAD, Sept 23: Hyderabad DIG Sanaullah Abbasi has said that about 35 per cent of the FIRs lodged in police stations in his area during the period of his posting have been registered on the orders of the judiciary and directed police officials concerned to dispose of cases within 14 days.

He said at a meeting of the SPs of investigation wing and investigating officers of Hyderabad zone on Tuesday that if a case proved false during investigation, the complainant should be prosecuted under section 182 PPC to discourage registration of false complaints.

He directed the investigation officers to bring with them case files and details to the meetings and said he would not accept oral reports. He would not tolerate inefficiency in the investigation of any case, he said.

DIG Abbasi claimed that conviction ratio had increased by more than 15 per cent in his jurisdiction due to speedy investigation and issued orders of retirement of investigation officer of Nawabshah, Inspector Taj Mohammad Rajput, over reports of his inefficiency and dereliction.

He issued reversion orders of IO Tando Allahyar Inspector Mohammad Bachal Talpur for undue delay in investigating cases and warned him that he would be reverted further to the post of ASI if he failed to complete the investigation of pending cases within a week. He issued similar warnings to other IOs.

The SPs of investigation presented reports of their districts at the meeting.

IT returns: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haji Mohammad Yaqoob demanded on Tuesday that the chairman of Federal Board of Revenue extend to Oct 15 the last date for filing income tax returns.He said in a press statement that offices and banks timings during Ramazan had been shortened, much to the inconvenience of taxpayers who faced difficulty filing returns.He said that Islamabad Marriot Hotel blast had seriously disturbed the FBR helpline and e-filing system, causing serious problems for corporate sector taxpayers, who filed their income tax, sales tax and excise duty returns electronically.
