KARACHI, Sept 23: Two people were killed in separate acts of violence in parts of the city on Tuesday, police and witnesses said.

A 36-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his wife’s brother in New Karachi.

The police said they arrested the suspect, Mohammed Akram, and seized the kitchen knife he had used to kill Mohammed Aslam, son of Imam Din.

They said the suspect lived with his brother-in-law, father of a two-year-old boy, at Data Nagri, a shantytown in Sector 11-J.

The police said the suspect wanted the victim to divorce his sister and stabbed the man to death after an altercation on the issue at around 11am.

They said the victim was fatally wounded and died on his way to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where an autopsy was conducted on the body.

Medico-legal sources said the victim received multiple stabs in his upper torso and a stab in the abdomen proved fatal.

The police registered a murder case (FIR 232/2008) against Akram under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Mohammed Ashraf.

The police said that both the suspect and the victim were construction workers and hailed from southern Punjab.

They said the suspect’s sister was the second wife of the victim, who had earlier divorced his first wife.

Body found

The body of an unknown young man was found in the bushes at a desolate place near Ilyas Goth.

The Ibrahim Haideri police said the body was spotted by area people in the small hours of Tuesday and it was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

Sources at the JPMC’s medico-legal department said the victim, who appeared to be in his mid-20s, received fatal wounds to the head with a heavy object.

A case (FIR 256/08) was registered against the unknown culprits under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state. Later, the body was kept at the Edhi morgue for identification.

Suicide

A 30-year-old man, father of two, committed suicide in Muslimabad, a shantytown in the Quaidabad police limits.

The police said Tariq Shah hanged himself with a piece of rope from a ceiling fan.

They quoted the victim’s family as telling them that the man had been jobless for the past many months and committed suicide due to a financial crisis.

The body was later handed over to the family after a postmortem examination at the JPMC.
