KARACHI: Power cuts at Sehr and Iftar

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 23: Tuesday was yet another day of many spells of power failures and load-shedding, which did not spare the consumers of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation even during Sehri and Iftar.

Residents of different residential areas complained of recurring power outages during Iftar and Sehr times.

Cantonment Bazaar, Malir Cantt, residents complained that they were deprived of electricity at around 5 o’clock on Tuesday morning for almost an hour.

A resident of Block K, North Nazimabad, said power supply in his area was shut at around 5.45pm and it was not restored till 8.15pm, so the area people had to do their Iftar without necessary electricity support.

The KESC in the last 24 hours faced a shortage of over 300 megawatts, so it resorted to multiple spells of load-shedding during the day and night. Out of the total 1050MW electricity, the KESC produced through its own resources at its Bin Qasim thermal power station with its generation unit churning out 850MW electricity.

The KESC in all availed itself of 1950MW electricity on Tuesday of which Wapda and various independent power producers in the private sector provided 850MW electricity.

The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant with its almost 80MW electricity input for the Karachi’s electric supply system came back into operation on Saturday last after several days.
