KARACHI: Training centre for disaster management planned
KARACHI, Sept 23: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that a disaster management training centre of international standard is being established here in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority.
He said training in the centre would start from Nov 1, 2008, for which all arrangements had been finalised and work had started after earmarking 500 acres on Super Highway.
He was talking to a delegation of National Disaster Management Authority in the KWSB chairman’s office here on Tuesday.The delegation included experts in disaster management and consultants from Switzerland.
Keeping the present day’s challenges in view there was a need of an institute of international standard for training of disaster management, he told the delegation.
For this purpose, the city government had recovered a plot of 500 acres from land mafia near the Super Highway Asphalt Plant and earmarked it for the Urban Research Rescue Centre which would be equipped with modern facilities.
He said it was a good omen that international experts and trained teachers would impart training at the disaster management centre.
He said first the process of training of instructors would start which would be completed by the end of December.
The nazim directed the EDO of the works and services department and the MD of the water board to complete the work of provision of water, sewerage system and electricity and construction of roads before November 1.
The EDO of municipal services was directed to inform the CCPO and the TPO in advance about security arrangements in the area.—APP
