Altaf calls for buying heavy machinery for relief work

KARACHI, Sept 21: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain called upon the government on Sunday to prepare a disaster management plan on an urgent basis and equip its organisation with advanced heavy machinery.

In a statement issued here, Mr Hussain advised the government to acquire advanced heavy machinery for use in relief work in the event of fire, terrorists’ attacks and calamities.

He recalled that when the October 8, 2005 earthquake devastated many areas in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP, helicopters and heavy machinery were not available for immediate relief work.—APP
