Municipal school teachers await salaries

GUJRANWALA, Sept 21: The female teachers of primary, elementary and secondary municipal schools have not been given so far the salary for the month of August, a teachers’ representative said here on Sunday.

Although Eid is a few days away, the Education Department has not given teachers salaries and Rs1,000 special allowance announced by the chief minister, teachers’ representative Naurin Kokab said. She said teachers would take to the street if they were not given salaries immediately.

EDO (Literacy) Dr Jawad Haider Sherazi said salaries of female teachers of municipal schools would be cleared within next few days. However, he said the teachers would be given their salaries for the month of September after Eid.

FUNDING FOR DHQ: Punjab Assembly members from Gujranwala district will give Rs13 million to Divisional Headquarters Hospital from their development funds for medicines and equipment and the district steering committee has approved the plan, Executive District Officer for Health Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema said at a briefing at the hospital on Sunday.

Cheema said he had appealed to all MPAs to give money to the hospital from their development funds. He said he hoped that non-government organisations and philanthropists would also donate money to the hospital.

FLOUR BAGS SEIZED: About 600 flour bags were seized here during a raid on a storehouse on Chaman Shah Road on Sunday. Deputy District Officer for Revenue Kamran Afridi raided a storehouse, seized the flour bags and arrested storehouse owner Amanullah.
