Journalist’s father feared kidnapped

HYDERABAD, Sept 21: Jam Nawab Hussain, the octogenarian father of senior journalist Lala Rehman Samoon, was reported to have been kidnapped from outside a mosque here early Sunday morning.

“He had gone to our area’s Makki mosque after Sehri but did not return,” Lala Rehman told Dawn.

He said when he didn’t come back by 9.30am the family began to search for him.

Mr Hussain is a member of the mosque’s management committee. The mosque is located near Dargah Shah Makki within the jurisdiction of Makki Shah police station.

“The family found one of his slippers outside the mosque and there were tyre tracks on a mud track normally never used by vehicles,” Lala Rehman added.

He said: “We believe that he has been kidnapped”.

Local police have been informed about the incident however an FIR is not lodged.

The family is still searching for him and has approached Edhi welfare centres and hospitals to get any information about him.
