ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: President Asif Ali Zardari is reported to have said that national sovereignty would get precedence over everything else and it would not be compromised.

According to sources, he made the statement while discussing important national and international issues with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani who had called on him at the President’s House here on Friday.

The sources said the leaders discussed issues against the background of violations of the country’s borders by US forces which had the UN mandate to conduct operations against terrorists inside Afghanistan. They agreed on a government strategy to deal with the situation.

According to an official handout, important domestic and global matters came under discussion. The sources said the meeting also discussed the situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the president’s US visit and economic matters.

According to TV channels, a report presented to the president suggested that the recent air strikes in tribal areas by US forces had been carried out on the basis of wrong intelligence of CIA and that no ‘high-value’ targets had been hit in these attacks.
