Unemployed youth offers kidney for sale
By M. Hussain Khan
HYDERABAD, Sept 19: A poverty-stricken intermediate student offered on Friday his kidney for sale so that he could look after his mother who has been divorced by his father.
The young man came to the press club holding a banner inscribed with words ‘kidney for sale’.He has passed his intermediate exam this year and his mother was serving in a health facility but she lost her job.
His father had left home five years ago, forcing the family to stay with his maternal aunt in Tando Wali Mohammad area.
“We have been living there for five years but everyone of us is facing financial problems. My aunt has really done a big favour to us when she allowed my family to stay with her but now even she is finding it hard to allow us any accommodation in her house,” he told Dawn.
His father had divorced his mother eight months ago, he said. He said he was desperately trying finding some job. He had worked at private places but didn’t get sufficient salary. He has a brother and a sister who passed her intermediate examination.
“Neither we have a place to live nor we have means of subsistence,” said he.
It was these economic conditions which had hit his family hard and he was compelled to sell his kidney to some needy person, who could give him sufficient money in return, he added.
“I, basically, need a house for my family because otherwise where can we go from here after leaving my aunt’s house,” he remarked.
He said he had run from pillar to post to get a job but in vain. He was hopeful that some needy person would definitely approach him to purchase his kidney.
“If I am provided a job it will also resolve my problems to some extent because then I will be able to at least feed my family but under present circumstances what should I do,” he asked.
He said its better that he should sell this body organ and save his family from starvation or forcing them into any wrong direction.
“I did go to local PPP leaders but they just keep us on hopes that jobs are coming. In fact they have their own axe to grind. Jobs in education department have been given to people while I am not able to get one,” he complained. He said he just wanted to save his family from disgrace.
“I will not go for sale of my kidney if I am provided a job otherwise I am determined,” he said.
