US told to stop raids, says Gilani

By Ahmed Hassan

ISLAMABAD, Sept 18: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday that the US government had been asked to stop incursions in Pakistan’s territory.

Talking to a team for the NWFP headed by Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti at the Prime Minister’s House, the prime minister said the Unites States had been told that Pakistan would not allow violating of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He said Pakistan would not allow any foreign force to carry out attacks which would be counterproductive.

He also said that was a need for greater intelligence sharing and better coordination among the forces of Pakistan, the US, Nato and Isaf.

Mr Gilani said the war against terrorism was in Pakistan’s own national interest because economic development of the country depended on peace and stability.

He said that PC-I of the $12.6 billion Diamir-Bhasha Dam had been approved by the CDWP. The project with a storage capacity of 8.1 million acre feet of water will produce 4,500MW of electricity.

Wapda chairman Shakil Durrani informed the meeting that it would the first storage dam after Tarbela. He said that Mangla and Tarbela dams had lost 31 per cent of storage capacity due to silting.
