LAHORE, Sept 18: The deep monsoon depression in India moved westwards on Thursday and the meteorologists here expected it to generate heavy to very heavy rain over the catchments of rivers Sutlej and
Beas (India) between Sept 19 and 22.
The system would most probably move towards Nepal but only after causing widespread rain over eastern Kashmir and the catchments of the two rivers, Flood Forecasting
Division chief Hazrat Mir told Dawn.
He said the system was still far away, and it would most probably not affect Pakistan or the catchments of its rivers in Kashmir. It was likely to produce torrential rains over the catchments of the two Indian rivers.
But, Mir said, since there were dams on both these rivers, India would like to first fill them before releasing excess water to Pakistan. “There also are three big nullahs, and their water will add to the Sutlej flow in case of heavy rains,” he said.
