ROME, Sept 18: An Italian consortium that proposed to take over Alitalia officially withdrew its offer on Thursday, dooming the money-losing Italian flag carrier to bankruptcy, the ANSA news agency reported.
ANSA quoted an official statement saying that members of the consortium meeting in Milan voted unanimously to pull out, after unions failed to accept a deal that would have involved cutting thousands of jobs to save the carrier.—AFP
