Asfandyar elected chief of foreign affairs panel

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: ANP president Asfandyar Wali Khan was elected unopposed chairman of the NA’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

His name was proposed by PML-N’s Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and seconded by PPP’s Ghulam Mustafa Shah.

Earlier, the NA Committee on Water and Power unanimously elected Ghulam Mustafa Shah as its chairman.

His name was proposed by Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur of the PPP and seconded by Abid Sher Ali of the PML-N.

Asfandyar Wali Khan replaces Dr Farooq Sattar of MQM.

Talking to reporters, Mr Khan said he would ensure a detailed discussion in parliament for framing foreign policy.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in a message congratulated Mr Khan and expressed the hope that he would work for improving the country’s relations with the international community.

Mr Khan’s election is part of a power-sharing formula between the ANP and the PPP. Under the agreement, the ANP would get another two ministerial posts.
