LAHORE, Sept 17: Young doctors of all major hospitals in the city set up a protest camp outside the Assembly Hall on the third consecutive Wednesday to press the provincial government for the acceptance of their demands.

A good number of doctors from Mayo, Services, Jinnah, Sir Ganga Ram, Shaikh Zayed and Children hospitals gathered at Faisal Chowk under the banner of ‘Young Doctors Association’ (YDA).

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) also joined the young doctors and together they held a demonstration against the health department.

Dr Salman Kazmi, a representative of YDA, said a Rs12,000 monthly stipend for a resident house officer and Rs15,000 for a post-graduate resident officer should be increased to Rs25,000 and Rs35,000, respectively.

He said working conditions at public hospitals were not up to the mark while provision of doctors’ security was also one of the major demands.
